August 17, 1999 Earthquake: We Remember, We Will Never Forget

August 17, 1999 remains one of the darkest and most painful days in Turkey’s recent history. At 03:02, a devastating earthquake struck the Marmara region, causing massive destruction, particularly in Kocaeli, Sakarya, Yalova, Istanbul and surrounding areas.

Thousands of people lost their lives, many were injured, and hundreds of thousands of people were forced to leave their homes. The earthquake did not only destroy buildings; it left deep and lasting wounds in families and communities.

Years have passed, but the memory of those who lost their lives remains with us. August 17 is a day of remembrance and an important reminder of the earthquake risk faced by our country and the importance of building safer cities and being prepared for future disasters.

As İrmana Logistics, we respectfully remember all those who lost their lives in the August 17, 1999 earthquake.

We remember. We will never forget. Remembering the past means working together for a safer future.
